Biography:
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Allison Joy Langer moved to Los Angeles with her family at the age of five. She was a tomboy as a child, acquiring the nickname "A.J." Later, when she was the only girl in the baseball little-league, the nickname took root. When, as a ninth-grader, she became student-bodypresident, A.J. was noticed by an algebra teacher, who became the firstperson to expose her to the idea of an acting career. Eventually, she metErnie Lively, who became her mentor, acting coach and manager, and helpedlaunch her career. On television, A.J. was a series regular on "Drexell's Class," with Dabney Coleman, who gave her support and encouragement. In her free time, the vivacious, brown-eyed beauty likes nothing better than to read thesports section cover to cover, crediting her older brother, Kirk, for theathletic inspiration. She creates one-of-a-kind necklaces, picture framesand decorative pieces as gifts. She also hikes, camps and goes fishing.The actress lives still in her parents' stwo-story home in the San FernandoValley, California. Information from 1996: A.J. has a boyfriend, Chris Frith-Smith, 23, whom she met at a postprom party in 1992, and "we've talked every day forfour years," Langer says. "He's my best friend. He's really half of me in a lot of ways. I'll get married in five years, if it's him." At themoment he is a law and society major in his last year at the Universityof California at Santa Barbara who currently plays minor league baseballfor the Sioux Falls Canaries and hopes to play professional baseball.
