The Wonder Years mother Alley Mills says her TV boys, Fred Savage(Kevin
Arnold) and Jason Hervey(Wayne Arnold), treat her like a second mom.
"I'm sometimes very strict," says Mills, who plays Norma Arnold on
the ABC series. "If Fred throws food I don't say anything, but if he gets
really out of line... Every now and then he can become a little butt because
he has all the power on the set." However, she muses, "I'm amazed he hasn't
become more arrogant. When you walk down the street with him, girls start
screaming." She doesn't have to reprimand Fred very often because "his
mom, Joanne, is usually there to stay on top of him." As for Jason: "I
feel like his mother-especially because he goes out with girls now and
his hormones are off the map." Hervey and Mills went together to the Emmy
Awards, and Mills reports they had a talk in the limo. "He was going on
a date later that night and I said, 'I don't know what you do on your dates,
but I'm going to tell you everything about AIDS.' His mouth fell open.
He didn't know a lot of what I told him. Like a lot of people, he thought
it's something only gay men catch."
