    Family: His father, economist Herb Stein, was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors in the Nixon administration. Ben Stein is married to Alexandra Denman since 1968 and has a son, Tommy, born in 1987.
Ben Stein was trained as a lawyer and economist. He has testified before Congress on various issues and still practices law to some extent. He worked as a White House speechwriter on economic matters during the Nixon administration.He writes a regular column in "The American Spectator", called "Ben Stein's Diary."  In addition he wrote several novels and  essays. One of his essay collections is "HOLLYWOOD DAYS, HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS: THE DIARY OF A MAD SCREENWRITER," published by Bantam Books, New York, in 1988.  Ben supported George W. Bush in his 2000 campaign, and appeared at the Republican National Convention honoring George W. Bush in a spoof of his game show, "Win Ben Stein's Money."

Ben's father, economist Herb Stein, was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors in the Nixon administration.

  • He appeared in TV commercials for Sorry! (a game) (1996), the movie "Rumble in the Bronx" (1996), for Clear Eyes (1995+1997) and for Oldsmobile (1997). 
  • As of 10/97, host of game show "Win Ben Stein's Money". Ben's  real salary for hosting the show is used as prize money for the contestants.
  • He has written a novel "The Boost" in 1988 and the story for the TV movie "Murder in Mississippi" in 1990.
